Key Duties:
1. Develop and maintain a strong and vibrant faith community among students, faculty and staff, and parents centered on the mission and core values of the school.
2. Develop and implement action plans, allocating resources effectively to support and achieve the school’s goals.
3. Responsibly manage and oversee the financial operations of the school.
4. Promote a rigorous curriculum, high quality instructional practices and informed decisions to improve student learning.
5. Provide an environment that supports cooperation and collaboration with faculty/staff, students, and community.
6. Be a visible presence in all areas of the school, encouraging excellence, facilitating opportunities, and working to resolve all problems, both routine and unique as they arise.
7. Attract and maintain an exemplary faculty and to support and implement professional growth programs.
8. Coordinate and supervise the school’s Board of Regents with an emphasis on strategic planning, finance, marketing, policy and procedure, and facilities.

Diocese of Monterey

The Diocese of Monterey in California encompasses the counties of Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Cruz and serves over 200,000 Catholics with over 40 parishes and 16 schools. MCP is a Diocesan high school with direct oversight from the Bishop and Superintendent.
Requirements
As the leader of the faith community of the school, the Principal shall:
1. Be a practicing Catholic, in good standing with the church, who has knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith.
2. Be deeply committed to the development of the faith life of teachers and students.
3. Understand and be dedicated to the ministry of Catholic education.

As a professional educator, the Principal shall:
1. Have a minimum of five years of experience in teaching and/or in administration with Catholic school experience.
2. Hold a basic Catechetical Certification or adhere to the minimum requirements for Catechetical Certification as set forth by the Diocese of Monterey.
3. Hold a minimum of 20 graduate hours towards a master’s degree with an emphasis in supervision, curriculum, instruction or other related education administration courses.
4. Hold a valid California Standard Teaching Credential or its equivalent from another State.
5. Hold a valid Administrative Credential or its equivalent from another state. Principals in the Diocese of Monterey who do not hold a current, valid Administrative Credential will need to complete the requirements for such a credential per State requirements and Diocesan policy within a period mutually agreed upon with the Superintendent of Schools.

Supplemental Questions

As part of the application process, Principal candidates are asked to submit a written response of approximately 500 words. Candidates may combine all four questions into one cumulative response or answer each one separately.

1. Describe your basic philosophy of education. What are the beliefs that guide your actions as an administrator?
2. Why do you wish to work in a Catholic school?
3. What are the most important characteristics of an effective Catholic school?
4. What leadership qualities do you have that would support your role as an administrator of a Catholic school?
