MCP Distance Learning - Day 1 Update

March 18, 2020

Dear Royals Family,

I heard from many MCP families and teachers today, affirming that the first day of our implementation for our Distance Learning plan was a strong one.  There is, of course, still much to be learned from this process but we are feeling good about how we have begun, and so should you and your students.

As was announced earlier this afternoon, a Shelter In Place order is expected to go into effect in the county of San Luis Obispo tomorrow evening, 3/19, at 5pm.

It is not expected to drastically impact school operations in our Distance Learning plan because, at this time, schools and educational institutions have been explicitly declared as necessary and essential services by the County of San Luis Obispo.  This means all school employees are still allowed to move between school and home.  Many of our teachers are operating from home anyway, but even if they need to come to campus, the essential nature of our education allows for that travel.

We are keenly aware that this type of an order has the potential to further disrupt non-school activities in our community, as well as create additional stress and anxiety for students and our counseling services are available.  Students should contact Mrs. Blomfield with any concerns.  Please also encourage your students to continue in prayer, stay positive, have faith, and remain engaged with their instructors so they can be communicating any concerns or questions directly to them.

As my email yesterday shared, our entire community is being called upon to undertake an extraordinary shift, mid-semester.  This is an unprecedented challenge but it is one that we are well positioned to take on.  The plan we have developed and put into practice is one that also allows for a great deal of flexibility.  It is, in fact, our ability to plan, implement, analyze and plan again, that will allow us to adjust, grow, and be successful as we move through the next several weeks.

Thank you for the incredible response to this crisis.  Our unique culture of care and accountability is being strengthened by this adversity.  ‘We will’ overcome this, together.

Yours in Christ,

Mike Susank
