Dear Royals Family,
The staff and leadership on our campus continues to evaluate and evolve our programming to make sure that our "culture of care and accountability" extends beyond the boundaries of our campus. We are constantly discussing the ways in which we could improve as a staff and we appreciate your feedback from our survey last weekend. From your responses, as a school we are addressing both the student workload expectations and increasing the accessibility of our instructors for office hours. Please look for another survey to come out next week and I thank you in advance for returning that data back to us.
I wish to alert everyone to a calendar change. Please note that the date for when Marking Period grades will be sent out to families has been pushed to the week after Easter. These Marking Period grades are a progress report and should be used to prioritize student effort as we approach the end of the school year.
As many of you may have heard, the governing body of high school sports in California, the CIF, formally announced the cancellation of all high school spring sports for the remainder of the year. We are heartbroken for our senior student athletes, but we are also confident that this disappointment will not outlast the great purpose of their lives to come.
Looking forward, I do wish to emphasize that the upcoming Easter Break is intended to be a time for both students and staff to be with their families in celebration of Christ’s passion and resurrection. It is also a time for much needed rest and relaxation. Teachers have been directed that no new student work should be assigned over the break. While students may certainly choose to do some amount of backlogged work, the hope is that both teachers and students will be able to take a true break.
I am sure that the question on almost everyone’s mind is ‘when will on-campus instruction resume?’ The principals of all Catholic schools in our Diocese have been in regular contact with the Bishop of Monterey since this crisis began and, as eager as we are to see this resolved, we are making decisions based upon the best available data. We are hopeful for a return this year but also prepared for any outcome. Regardless of how this is ultimately resolved, we also know that our student and parent communities are working incredibly hard and we are proud to partner with you.
I hope that the continuation of learning for your MCP student has been a source of consistency at a time of exceptional disruption. Thank you for continuing to partner with Mission College Prep in the education of your student. There will be an after to this crisis and WeWill get there as a community.
Yours in Christ
Mike Susank
