Dear Royals Family
This weekend (May 2nd) actually marks the mid-point from when our on-campus operations were suspended (March 16) and the planned end of the school year (June 5th). As we pause and reflect we are certainly very pleased with the level of academic progress that has been maintained over the past several weeks by our teachers and students. They are all to be commended for their continued hard work under incredibly challenging circumstances.
One thing that is also clear is that the final ten weeks of this semester will call for some degree of modification to the “typical” Semester Final Exam in each course. In order to make those modifications (and also communicate the changes to students in a timely manner) this coming Friday and Monday, May 1st and 4th are being reclassified as Professional Development days for our faculty.
Please note, these are not vacation days for students (or faculty). They should be used by students to catch up on any missing work or any other academic tasks that they may have fallen behind on over the past two weeks (or beyond). No new student work/assignments will be posted this Friday or Monday but a teacher may still conduct office hours or student conferences on both these days. Again, the purpose of these two days is to provide faculty the time to lesson plan and prepare for finals, and so students can get caught up at the mid-point of our Distance Learning program.
New learning and new classwork will resume on May 5th with the same daily rotation posted in the calendar.
Also, please remind all senior students that they should make sure that all of their past service hours should be logged on Mobileserve by today (Tuesday). We will audit all senior service hours tomorrow and any senior who is short of the hours necessary to graduate will be contacted regarding the school service project. This project will be required for these students in order for them to meet the Graduation Service Hours requirement.
While next school year is still many months away and we continue to monitor the updates from our state and local authorities, please know that it remains our intent to begin the 2020-21 school year on campus and on August 14 with our annual Freshman Orientation. Classes for all students are scheduled to begin the following Monday, August 17. Regardless of the challenges next year will bring, Mission College Prep will continue to provide the finest college preparatory education in our county.
Thank you all for your continued support of your students and of our school. We are proud of the exceptional learning that has happened since this crisis began and I ask that you please continue to spread the word about the amazing things that are happening at MCP.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal
