Dear Royals Family,
We have a busy week coming up with the end of the academic year, student locker cleanout, Baccalaureate and Graduation ceremonies, all followed by the start of MCP Summer Session. So, no rest just yet on the horizon, but lots of exciting events.
On Wednesday of this coming week we will invite underclass students to come to campus (in designated time slots) to clean out their lockers and to return any school materials (athletic uniforms and loaned textbooks). In order for us to maintain adequate social distancing for this process we ask that all families please be mindful of their assigned timing and arrive promptly. Details will be communicated out to each class regarding the cleanout procedures, so look for those messages in the coming days but the assigned times will be between 9am and 2pm on Wednesday, June 3rd.
Attention senior parents, also on the afternoon of June 3rd will be a mandatory student practice for Graduation. All seniors must join the video conference and the practice session will not begin until all seniors are online (and visible). Directions for attending the conference will be communicated to seniors well in advance.
The Baccalaureate Mass for the MCP class of 2020 will be broadcast on Thursday June 4th at 6pm. The link to the online video will be sent out in advance and we are hoping to have our entire community and their extended families all watching this important Commencement event. Mrs. Buresh and the entire Campus Ministry team have done an amazing job putting this together and we are especially blessed that our homily will be delivered by the Bishop of Monterey, the Most Reverend Danny Garcia. Please join us.
Graduation plans are steaming ahead. We will be welcoming our graduates, faculty, staff, families and guests (and 250 cars) to the meadow at the Madonna Inn on Friday June 5th. Logistics for this event are being very carefully crafted to maximize the enjoyment of the moment but we also want it to be a safe event. Thank you senior families, in advance, for your patience and your adherence to the directions. We want to deliver an orderly and efficient arrival, staging, and exit from this ceremony. Together we can make sure that the most lasting memory of that night will be the moment each graduate crosses the stage (and not the Royal traffic jam that came from last minute arrivals and ill-timed departures). No other high school in our county is able to have this moment, let's show our county how incredible the MCP community really is!
MCP is pleased to announce that we are launching a 2020 Summer Session that will offer a small number of full-year, high school courses. Courses will run for five weeks, starting June 9th with subjects available in lower division Math and Spanish. The classes will be a combination of both on-campus and Distance Learning. The intent of these courses is to offer the opportunity for 8th-10th grade students to progress into upper division courses in these subjects by the fall. High school students seeking to remediate a poor grade may also enroll but the pacing of these courses will be challenging due to the condensed timeframe. We must have a minimum of ten (10) students enrolled in each course in order for the course to be offered but we are anticipating a very high demand. Please contact Mrs. Amy Arena in the Registrar’s Office if you are interested in these courses for your student. We are hoping that this will lead to additional course offerings in the years to come but we are very excited to offer this to our community for this summer.
I have been told that summer schools around the county will be an important test for how schools might be able to approach instruction in the fall. Please continue to practice appropriate distancing and other preventative measures so that our entire community can enjoy a return to more complete life together.
With summer now beginning to beckon I wish everyone a successful conclusion of the academic year. To our seniors and their families I offer my sincere thanks for your trust in us, to partner in forming these young women and men of scholarship, inspiration, and leadership. The Baccalaureate and Graduation ceremonies are going to be absolutely beautiful events and I look forward to seeing your family at the Madonna Inn next Friday night.
Thank you all for a wonderful year. We have not yet reached the end of this crisis but we have certainly persevered through its primary challenge which was, in the face of total upheaval of our society, to continue to create a culture of care and accountability for our students and to continue to form them into women and men for others; and to do so without unraveling the bonds that make a school into a family. As our mission continues WeWill get through this crisis as a community. Have a great weekend.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
