MCP Thespians at 2024 California State Thespian Festival

MCP’s Troupe 7903 of the International Thespian Society attended the California State Thespian Festival for the ninth time this past weekend. Seventeen student delegates and four adult chaperones joined students from 65 high schools around the state, to spend three days celebrating excellence in high school theatre. Students prepared pieces for professional adjudication, attended various theatre workshops, and watched performances representing the best in the state. Delegates from MCP at the festival this year were: Thomas Beaudin*, Jack Hamon*, Victoria Hoffman*, Elijah Hope*, Kara Huggins*, Taylor LaFolette*, Sophia Lagattuta*, Opal Lansky, Bradley May*, Sabrina Ornellas*, Andrew Orr*, Londyn Scott*, Collin Shatara*, Savita Sohi*, Corrina Spaulding*, Fiona Sweeney, & Andy Tracy*. (*denotes member of the International Thespian Society). Eight of these students were returning delegates, and the other nine were attending the Festival for the very first time.

Several Mission students received special recognition during the festival:

  • Savita Sohi was chosen to be assistant choreographer for the All-State Opening Number, a performance of Magic Happens from Disney’s Magic Happens parade, directed & choreographed by Sarah Kobayashi, choreographer of the Disneyland Parade.
  • Thomas Beaudin was selected for the third year in a row to be part of the All-State Tech Crew for Lighting
  • Collin Shatara was selected to be part of the All-State Tech Crew for House Management
  • The following students received a Superior Rating for their Thespy performances, out of over 1,000 entries across all categories, meaning they ranked in the top percentile for their specific events:
    • Andy Tracy- Solo Musical Theatre Performance -  “What If” from The Addams Family by Andrew Lippa
    • Sohi Savita- Solo Musical Theatre Performance -  “Losing My Mind” from Follies by Stephen Sondheim
    • Taylor LaFollette- Solo Musical Theatre Performance -  “Lifeboat” from Heathers: The Musical by Laurence O’Keefe & Kevin Murphy

Our trip would not have been possible without the support of chaperones Cortney Lansky & Rick Scott, who not only drove and chaperoned, but also performed assigned duties during the weekend to help the Festival run smoothly. Thank you so much to Carlesha Harris for processing our registration, and last but certainly not least, our Troupe Director, Ms Blomfield.
