ROYAL PRIDE WEEKLY
February 16, 2024
Hello Royals Family!
For the first several days of this week I was blessed with the opportunity to be on a different Catholic high school campus in Reno, Nevada; Bishop Manogue Catholic HS. I was there to participate in their accreditation process. It was an incredible opportunity for me to connect with new colleagues, to learn and to reflect more deeply upon the foundational values of Catholic education. I was able to get acquainted with the accreditation process that Mission College Prep will go through next year (and Bishop Manogue is a great school), but being there also reaffirmed my profound belief in the ministry of Catholic education at our school.
I hope it is clear to all that it is our Faith and the unending pursuit of God’s truth, which are the absolute foundation for what we do at MCP. There are many words and phrases that we use when talking about our school’s values: care, accountability, community, excellence, growth, and the list goes on. But every aspect of the Mission College Prep experience stems from a foundation of faith. As the culminating words of our Mission Statement affirm, the reason that our school exists is to bring students “to deeper life with God and deeper life with one another.”
This is the ultimate differentiator of the MCP student experience; we are here to partner with parents in forming these young people into the person God has called them to be. That task is more important than any individual grade, it is more important than any game, and it is more important than any performance, and truly, it is more important than any earthly success. It is the reason behind everything that we do. Make no mistake, grades, homework, practices, rules, dress codes, attendance policies, and any of the countless other examples of school policies and standards are still important. We very much believe that we can still be a ‘College Prep’ AND educate ‘the whole person;’ we can still require academic and personal excellence AND in doing so, prepare students for heaven.
Thank you, as always for your faith in us! Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns, and please have a wonderful weekend.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal

People's Kitchen - Senior's Really Deliver!!!
This past Saturday, February 10th our MCP seniors really delivered with their commitment to serving our community through the People's Kitchen. MCP seniors served 105 meals to those in need and Brooks Burgers also made a large donation of chicken wings that supplemented the exceptional offers from the MCP senior families. They had enough donations for 2 servings. The number of people in need continues to grow, which highlights the need for all those on the People's Kitchen monthly lists to donate. We thank our MCP community for your support - your People's Kitchen PA Coordinators, Dave Jordan, Nick Harris, Holly Luban, Mark Wijsen, Kristina Takken, Melissa Derrick, and Tammy Paster.

Lenten Phone Fast
As a schoolwide initiative, we want to remind all students and faculty & staff (and we invite parents too) of our school’s Lenten phone fast that begins Wednesday, February 14th. Our fasting will run from 8:30am–2:40pm each day. We do not want to see any phones out at break, at lunch, during passing periods, in the hallways, in the bathrooms, etc. We hope this is a time for all of us to better connect. Let’s embrace this beautiful opportunity to be more engaged with one another. Our Lenten phone fast will go up until Easter break. Wishing you all blessings on this Lenten journey.

MCP Parent Feedback Survey
Good Afternoon Royals Family - As I reaffirmed in my Royal Pride message last week, now is the ideal moment for us to seek out feedback from our parent partners. We aspire to be a truly exemplary school, but we also realize that all schools have blind spots, areas for potential growth that are potentially known by parents and students, but not always known to school leaders.
I ask that over the next several days all MCP parents would make the commitment to investing in just a few minutes of your time, to help us become an even more exceptional school. We look forward to hearing from each of you. This survey should take less than 15 minutes to complete. Please click on the link and make that critical investment in our growth.
As always, we thank you, everyone, for your support and partnership. Survey results will be aggregated by the school and reported back to our community in the coming weeks.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank

Congratulations to our winter sports teams for their exciting seasons. Three of our teams have qualified for the playoffs: Girls Soccer, Girls Basketball, and Boys Basketball. Girls Basketball has their second round of CIF play tonight in the MCP gym at 6:00 PM.
Our spotlight team for this week is Wrestling. Our wrestling program is only in its 2nd year and we sent 5 athletes to compete at the CIF Division 5 championships this past weekend. At the conclusion of the tournament Drake Mello finished in 2nd place overall at 132 lbs. and Gabe Ahumada finished as the CIF D5 Champion at 215 lbs. Drake and Gabe earned the opportunity to move on to the CIF Central Section championships next weekend in Fresno!!!
