ROYAL PRIDE WEEKLY
May 17, 2024
Good Afternoon Royals Family,
For the next couple of days it will be very tempting for students to feel like ‘school is over’. That sentiment needs to be delayed just a few more days because up to 20% of the grade value in almost every subject is still up for grabs, through Final Exams (and that is the rough equivalent of about three weeks of classwork). So, it may feel like school is over but there are still several hours of studying and preparation that are necessary for everyone, including seniors, to finish out the year successfully.
That being said, arriving at this point in the academic year is still a good reason for everyone to feel a certain sense of relief and satisfaction. We are down to one last 7 Period Day on Monday, with Royal Day to follow on Tuesday, then Finals and then summer!
Royal Day is when we will celebrate many of our student successes at our annual awards assembly. This is then followed by a student community event (yearbook signings, games, and other fun events), with student dismissal at 1pm. Parents and guests are welcome to attend the awards portion of the day and the school has already communicated out some details to the parents of any award winners. All students are expected to be in their C period classroom by 8:30am on Tuesday, in Mass Dress. The awards ceremony will begin in the MCP gym at approximately 9:00am and it will conclude by 11am. Students may change into more casual clothing after the awards assembly but they are not dismissed from campus until 1pm.
Final exams are all done in-person, on campus beginning on Wednesday, May 22nd. Please refer to the Handbook Calendar for further details.
Thank you again, parents, for all that you have done to make this a successful school year. It is perhaps too early to be looking forward to August but I am very pleased to report that we are anticipating another ‘full’ campus in the fall, with an incoming freshman class that will again exceed our target enrollment number, as well as several incoming transfer students (with applications still coming in every week). But enough about that, let’s get through this weekend and the first few finals (and then all of our end-of-year events!). Have a great weekend!
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal

Important MCP Policy Change for Fall '24
The work we do at Mission College Prep is always aiming towards the highpoint of our mission, which is to foster deeper life with God and deeper life with one another.
In pursuit of this, we want our students to optimize all of the 20th century learning tools at their disposal. But these tools and their applications must always be in alignment with this mission; and over the past several years we have observed some troubling trends involving cell phone usage among our students...

Weekly Focus
Athletics
Athletics Update:
As the weeks pass we see more of our spring sports teams completing their seasons. This week we still had 2 teams competing in the CIF playoffs Baseball and Softball. We also have 2 Boys Golfers and 1 Track & Field athlete who have moved on as individuals.
Boys Golf
The boys finished in 3rd place at the CIF Division 2 tournament last Monday. Luke Montoya and Jake Long scored low enough to be invited to the CIF Individual Tournament on Monday. Depending on how they do they could move on towards the state championship tournament.
Track & Field
The team finished up on Friday at the CIF Division 4 Championships. Ten of our athletes finished in the top 6 in their events which earned them medals and points towards the team score. Highlights include our Girls 4x100m relay finishing in 3rd place and our Boys 4x100m relay finishing in 5th place. Amelia Lobo took 2nd place in the Pole Vault which qualified her for the CIF Central Section Meet on Saturday, May 18.
Boys Tennis
Easton Weir and Nathan Bradbury competed in the CIF Individual Tournament this past Friday. Easton completed his high school Tennis career with a 3rd Place finish overall.
Baseball
The boys finished the regular season in 3rd place in the Sunset League earning them a birth in the CIF Division 2 playoffs. The team traveled to Hanford on Tuesday and took on Sierra Pacific High School in the first round. The boys played hard and represented MCP well. Great season Royals!
Softball
The Lady Royals are your 2024 Sunset League Champions. They earned the #1 overall seed in the CIF Division 4 playoffs and took on San Luis Obispo on Wednesday at Cuesta in round one and beat them 7-0.
Women's Tennis Update
